Urgent - Homebrew Fest Meeting 10/14

Post by Street » Fri Oct 06, 2017 4:14 pm

Sorry guys, I dropped the ball on announcing this. The fest committee is having their bi-annual meeting next Saturday, October 14 at noon in Anaheim. It's a waste of time and could be handled over a telecon or just have the info sent out via email. I hate it more than anyone, but if we don't send someone to the meeting we get put at the very bottom of the campsite call out. They do supply free pizza and beer for up to two people per club. I can't make it. Will anyone else take one for the team and make the trip to Anaheim next Saturday?

Clayton and I can make it down to anaheim again for the meeting.

We'll likely find our way down to bottle logic and the bruery while we're in the area, so don't worry about the inconvenience.

We'll fill you in on anything from the meeting, but it will likely be lame like last year.

Cheers!

Were you guys able to make it. Was it as unproductive as we thought it would be?

We made it to the meeting on Saturday and had some pizza and a beer while the normal CHA conversations happened.

Nothing cosmic, and the board members recognized that the fall meeting may not be required next year, or that it may not be compulsory if it takes place.

Additionally:

-Campsite call out is Nov 14, submit alcohol server cert by 1 November to get on the 1st list

-Some change in board leadership, some of them stepped down for personal reasons or whatever, not really a younger board, but a hint of leadership & common sense at some points

-Vail lake will be the site of homebrew fest for the foreseeable future, they're working a 5 yr contract for homebrewfest at vail, big picture vail lake power & paving projects being worked under new contracts for vail maintenance, long term fixes, not exactly next year fixes

-Some hubaloo about homebrewers pouring beer at non-501c3 organized & run events, no for-profit orgs can legally have you pour homebrew at their event, don't pour homebrew at events that are not wholly operated by non-profits for the benefit of non-profits

-There may not be a fall meeting next year, shifting to email for the fall b/c legislation and homebrew fest location stability, so perhaps no meeting next fall, the board was still not receptive to a group chat or other online e option b/c they still don't understand technooogy

-next year's Bragging right beer may be 2015 bjcp categories 11 bitters, 19 amber & cal common, or 24 Belgiums, last year's broad lager category was prob too broad, email the SCHA people with our club's vote for style, of not, no big deal

-Bragging rights only beer may be judged Saturday morning at fest b/c the boards member's opinions about the judging atmosphere on friday night, they're being silly

-volunteers are still a thing, 125 volunteers exchange 2 hrs for free fest entry, SCHA is prob looking for volunteers well in advance of fest in exchange for the ticket price, ernie@ calbrewers.net if interested
