Barrel Aged Gunny Project

Post by Kevin » Mon Jun 25, 2018 5:21 pm

So Brian Avery has graciously agreed to donate a bourbon barrel to the club and the plan is to fill it with a Homebrew version of Bravery's The Gunny in tribute to The Man. Dylan has the recipe at his shop and can get you all squared away. The goal is to have them fermented (not carbed) by the beginning of August. The people below signed up at the June meeting. If anyone on this list needs to drop off or anyone wants to be added, let me know here or in the Facebook group. Some people are signing up for more than 5 gallons in case we have any people drop out or an infected batch (they will be tasted before going in the barrel).

Kevin - 5 gal
Juan - 5 gal
Ryan R. - 5 gal
Travis - 5 gal
Dan - 5-10 gal
Mike A. - 5 gal
Street - 5-10 gal
Steve - 5 gal
Ryan B. - 5 gal
Pat - 5 gal

Best to have more than not enough... I'm sure we can accommodate and make it fair in the end for all that participated... 5 gallons in, 4 gallons out to cover the over brewed or bad batches.

Kevin - 5 gal - Presume good to grow with 5 G’s
Juan - 5 gal - did not Brew
Ryan R. - 5 gal - brewed, but no good
Travis - 5 gal - brewed, in fermenter
Dan - 5-10 gal - check, 10 G’s good
Mike A. - 5 gal - hmm, don’t remember Mike??
Street - 5-10 gal - check, 10 G’s good
Steve - 5 gal - brewed, but no good
Ryan B. - 5 gal - did not brew
Pat - 5 gal - check 5 G’s good

That makes 35 gallons...littler short from the ~60 G's needed. Looks like some knee caps are going to get busted...

This event has been postponed to early-mid September due to a lack of beer...

Juan, Ryan/Michelle and Mike A. 5 G's each. That will put us at 55 G's (if it's all good). There is room for more folks if interested. If you want in, let us know. There is still time to brew. Dylan has the recipe has the scaled down recipe. I'll see if I get it from him and post it a bit later.

Post if you have any updates to the beer you brewed for the Barrel Aged Gunny Project.

I have 15 gallons, 5 to was planned, 10 more as a backup plan

I think Juan and Make A. both brewed 5 gallons each for another 10 gallons. I not sure if Ryan and Michelle did. If they did we should be right at 60 gallons, Bravery Brian said he would be able to top the barrel if we can't. We'll need to taste each beer and probably do quick majority vote if goes in the barrel or not. I'm open to other ideas on how to decided what goes in as well. I heard in the past some suspect beer made it in a barrel and it didn't work out. Remember, do not carbonate it. I put a little CO2 on the head when I put in the keg, but that was it.

My keg is there. Don't forget to put your contact info on the keg so Brian can let you know when to pick it up.

Brian is filling the barrel on Wednesday... be sure to stop by soon after that to pick up your empty kegs.
